Twitter is so mean!

When I created my blog I was sucked into the realm of growing your blog. I sat there for a while worrying that I had little to no followers or page views, I joined some facebook blogging groups, read some posts, did some research. The conclusion of all my researching is…..that I really can’t be arsed with the blogging rat race. I would very much like those who follow to do so, only if they like my blog. So my social media game is pretty poor, don’t even get me started with Pinterest.

In all my naive rushing to gather up all the social medias I can, with my (awesome) blog name – HonestK, I created a twitter account. I did have a personal twitter account, but I never used it, like Pinterest, I just don’t get it. But I thought I should really give it a go. So I set up a blog account, found some people to follow and tried to get to grips with it.

You know what I have found? Twitter is mean. It’s a horrible place. I feel like I’ve left the real world and sunken into some other dark, dingy place. Kinda like watching one of those teen American horror films, the poor victim runs into the gas station looking for help, only to be confronted by another mass murderer with an even bigger meat cleaver, who then ties the victim up and waits for their other murderous buddies to arrive.

Ohhhh, no thanks. Giving myself the heebie jeebies (Scottish for scared, anxiety, basically the thought of looking down on your hand and seeing a massive hairy spider!)

Is it just me? I’v never thought of myself as a prude or easily offended, but some people on twitter sure have a talent for making me question my own lines that just don’t need to be crossed. Most days I find my jaw dropping, I sheer amazement at the shite I’m looking at. I’m all for liberation and freedom of speech but there’s a crass line that’s just a step too far. I love a funny, dirty, rude joke, but ya’all need to simmer down on twitter, honestly, there’s been a few times I’m left thinking ‘eh?’ how’s that funny. And it gets like a million re-tweets? Eh?! Don’t get it. Maybe I’m getting old, but I don’t find jokes that teenage boys used to make to get gain attention in class funny. Well, not all the time. Seriously, seeing something like ‘well slap me with a dick and call me Betty’ would not be out of place on Twitter. I feel like responding to each and every tweet that I think is way too far, but I don’t, you’ll see why.

It’s full of bashing. I thought it was a friendly, social place, but I think I’m wrong. I’v seen people clump and gang up on other users if they dare to post something that offends them. It’s nothing short of bullying, that kind of snide, whispering bullying, everyone laughing at the victim and encouraging others to join in. Bizarre. Twitter has the ultimate in keypad tough guys. People just love to bash and moan on there! There’s very little building people up, encouragement, boosting others, no. It appears to be every person for them self, they would happily sacrifice your first born just to gain 1000 more followers – for a day.

Twitter, my feed at least, is filled with random posts. Are they out of context? Am I the strange one? You know the kind, you get them on FB too, just not as many. People posting they have ate an apple….okkkkaaay, did I miss something here? I must have. Then there’s those that post cryptic, random, almost philosophical statements and GET REPLIES?! I must be missing something. I barely understood the tweet let alone summon up a reply. There’s a lot of head scratching on my side of the twitter world.

Man, I’m so annoyed, as I’m forever reading lists of funny tweets on Buzzfeed. It makes it look like a fun place to be, I’m not convinced though. I’m not bashing twitter users, I’m sure there are plenty of normal, friendly people out there. They must just be hidden from me, lurking in the happy sparkly twitter land. If you are there, please find me, please help drag me away from the gasp inducing circle I am in! I want to be in the happy, thigh slapping, laughter filler twitter world! Does it exist? Am I growing more evil and filled with debauchery the more I use it? Ahhhhhpenishhhhhh!

What?! How did that get in there? It’s already happening! Help!!

  1. Twitter makes me feel old. I just don’t get it. I mean I understand the concept, but it just seems like such a jumbled mess. And yes, why the snarkiness and general buttheadedness? It’s like a concentrated version of CafeMom message boards… Eck!

    1. Yes! It’s not just me!! It is a jumbled mess, exactly. It’s as if people go on there just to be rude aholes! I Don’t get it, I’ll still keep using it though 😆 if only for entertainment and how not to act purposes!

    1. I’m think the same, if even thought about deleting my account. But I find myself checking it everyday, looking at all the crazy that’s on there! It good to know I’m not alone in thinking Twitter is horrid!

  2. 😂😂😂And you did it again. Made me smile.

You can put your twitter handle at the end of your blog posts so your blog friends or anyone who reads your blog can check it out. Plus it all depends on the people you follow. There are some popular ones twitter recommend and you follow but you don’t need to. There are users on twitter that are all about books. Just search for the sort of things that interest you and follow if you think you’ll be interested in their feeds.

Twitter is alright once you get the hang of it.

    1. Yus! That is my aim!! 🙂 Glad you smiled!
I know, I’m meant to add my twitter at the end of the blog but since I’m in a bit of a twitter huff I forgot, oh well.
You are right, I need to look at following different people, ones that will make me laugh rather than gawk!

  3. The trolls, they are always lurking. I mostly stick to Twitter Moments because I value social media more as a tool to help keep me apprised of all the doings in politics and around the Web rather than actually communicating with people. I do wish sites like FB and Twitter would police their content more, though. It’s one thing to value “free speech” and another to have, say, Trump supporters telling Jews to “wait until the camps open up again.” Hate speech does not “make America great again,” and makes the Internet a far less enjoyable place.

    1. It really is filled with trolls isn’t it! I’v never hear of twitter moments, I’ll have a look.
I agree, free speech is great, however it’s the influence some people have that is worrying. It seems like twitter is just full of everyone’s hate side. I’v never seen anything quite as terrible as ‘camps open’!! That is disgusting. It’s like people try to say the most shocking thing to sound clever, it’s not for me at all.

  4. I’ve looked up funny parenting users to follow and check out their feeds, but that’s it for Twitter. I keep it for my blog, but I don’t really get the appeal much either.

  5. Oh my, yes! People can be horrid, despicable creatures on Twitter. There are some really awesome people on there (which I’ve found to be most of them (!)), but there are a few who stand out that are just awful. Spiteful, juvenile, zero-tolerance, hyper-reactive. They will jump down your back if you dare post something that’s 99% fine but 1% debatable. I totally feel you 🙂 ❤ ❤

    1. I just don’t get it, at all. I’v all but given up on Twitter, I haven’t been on it for days. I think if I put more work into who I follow then it would be better, but who has the energy for that carry on 😀
